Cyberstalking: A Definition

  • Cyber Stalking is using any type of electronic communication to repeatedly harass or scare someone (Rouse, 2007).
  • Cyber Stalking is a very serious, growing problem around the world that can affect many men and woman. (A New Challenge for Law Enforcement and Industry, 1999).
  • One in every 12 woman (8.2 million) and one in every 45 men (2 million) have been the victim of a stalker at least once in their lives. (A New Challenge for Law Enforcement and Industry, 1999).
  • The aim of any stalker is to harass or even cause harm and distress to their victim. A stalker could be someone you know or  even some one you have never met before.(A New Challenge for Law Enforcement and Industry, 1999).
  • Stalking has always been a very serious problem, but even tho Stalkers are now on the Internet they can still cause just as much harm or stress (Quality nonsense Ltd, n.d)
